Today, i am alone on the road. Its a strange feeling after sharing so many Kms with Nico...I am meeting an old friend working for a boutique winery in Barolo called Cascina Amalia. I decided to use highway to make sure arriving on time for the winery and vineyard visit. A bit boring but the afternoon will be more interesting with the winery tour and of course the tasting :)
i am meeting Elena for a quick vineyard tour and some stories about the area. Barolo is a little bit our french Bordeaux...Great and premium wines.
The family own winery count a total of 16 ha of production. Located in Montfort de Alba, 8km from Barolo it is also a nice Bed and breakfast hotel with swimming pool facilities and view on the vineyard.
Paolo the winemaker is new in the industry but makes elegant and great wines.The winery is only 10 years old but they already have their own style which i did enjoy very much.
The wine range is not big but wines are different and all have their own identity. I personally enjoy a lot their Barbera superior.
Obviously not much riding today as you can see but the roads there are superb between vineyards, hill, downhill...
I had a wonderful diner with Elena (the export director) in a home made restaurant not far from the winery and it was already time for me to have a rest in the cozy winery room.
I would like to thanks Elena and Paolo for their hospitality and i will be back for sure :)
