When we walked last night in Makhachkala, looking for a restaurant, we caught sight of mens walking with guns...From our local source, it seems normal but for 2 french guys, the situation was abnormal. We decided to end up with Dagestan. We like adventurers, not gangsters !
Today was a 420km of straight line with great asphalt towards Vladikavkaz (just before Georgian border).
On the way, we passed by the Republic of Chechnya and decided to make a small detour for a lunch in the Capital : Grozny !
We were expecting ruins after the second Chechen war which is over 4 years ago but nothing left from those bad times.
Grozny is a brand new city, locals are very friendly and you feel safer than Dagestan.
Islam is the major religion and muslim people are all in ramadan period, so it was impossible to find a restaurant open. We ended up in a local fast food :(
Although most of the city's infrastructure was destroyed during the war, the city's sewage, water, electricity and heating systems have since been repaired. After 4 years of construction, the Grozny mosque was opened to public in 2008 and it is considered one of the largest mosque in Europe.
As mentioned previously, no signs of the war remains and to make sure about this, we went to the Tourism office. The welcome was very warm and they were very surprised to see 2 Frenchies on motorbike.
Otherwise, except some stupid drivers with their f#$%^&** Lada who overtake us at 50cm from our side boxes, the ride was smooth. Seriously, nothing against Russian drivers but they seriously have blurred vision or just maybe stupid and reckless.
I got a second flat tyre on the back wheel but our Chechen friend fixed it for free. I even got Nitrogen on both tyres....ready to gazzzz and fly.
Tomorrow Russia journey will be over and we will attack gorgeous Georgian`s roads !
We are expecting a lot about Georgia....

Very great post. I simply stumbled upon your blog and wanted to say that I have really enjoyed browsing your weblog posts. new tires and they work really well for a little while, but then they start to wear down, and they gradually get worse and worse until you can spit in the road and your car will hydroplane over it.
